Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney’s pick for his running mate. This is a bold choice which will put in a clear divide between the nominations of the two parties. Paul Ryan has strong views, and is unapologetic about them.
Ryan is a follower of Ayn Rand and places a great deal of importance in the morality of capitalism, the case for which was made unlike any other by Rand. His life, especially his formative years, were shaped by the works of Ayn Rand. It is great to see people in mainstream politics who have been influenced by Ayn Rand (The last I remember was Greenspan). With Ron Paul and The Tea Party, there was a glimmer of Rand’s ideas in their rhetoric, but too many contradictions. With Paul Ryan too, it is hard to see how he can explain theism being compatible with the rest of Rand’s ideas which he follows, but he does seem solid on her views on capitalism and it will be interesting to see how this aspect will shape up in the campaign in the coming months.
